Encyclopaedia Britannica, which first made its move to CD-ROM in 1997, has been reduced in price by 33 to 60 per cent, the company has announced.
The Britannica CD 99 - Standard Edition now has an RRP of $99, reduced by 60 per cent from $249, while the Britannica CD 99 - Multimedia Edition has been reduced by 33 per cent from $299 to $199 RRP.
According to Encyclopaedia Britannica managing director Cooma Chelliah, a "more streamlined business and lower cost structure" enabled the price cuts.
Since 1997 the company's operations have been streamlined - its door-to-door direct sales force disbanded and the management team "revamped", a statement from the company reads.
