Dell expands OptiPlex PC line

Dell has announced the addition of two new managed PCs to its family of business and institutional desktop PCs -- the OptiPlex line.

The OptiPlex G1 and the OptiPlex E1 follow on from the GX1 model. launched in April.

According to Dell, OptiPlex PCs include processors based on Intel's P6 microarchitecture and are targetted at the business and institutional markets, which require basic through to power PCs.

The OptiPlex G1 features a Pentium II processor (with a choice of speeds from 266MHz to 400MHz), hard drives of up to 6.4GB, up to 256MB of SDRAM and up to 4MB of video memory.

An OptiPlex G1 with a 300MHz Pentium II processor, 64MB SDRAM, 14x/32x speed CD-ROM, 3.2GB hard drive, integrated ATI Rage IIC AGP video with 4MB video memory, is priced at $3543. Also included in the configuration is 10/100 Wake-up On LAN networking capability from 3Com.

The OptiPlex E1 is based on Intel's Celeron processor, and is expected to be bought by customers replacing dumb "green screen" terminals and 386/486 based machines.

For $2644, an OptiPlex E1 can be configured with a 300MHz Celeron processor, 2.1GB hard drive, 32MB SDRAM, Windows 95, a 15in HS monitor, integrated ATI Rage IIC AGP video with 2MB video memory, and integrated 3Com 10/100 Wake-up On LAN networking capability.
