Iomega Corporation has released its Jaz 2GB drives and cartridges in Australia, and dropped the price of the 1GB models to greet them.
The RRP for the external 1GB Jaz has dropped from $699 to $599, and from $599 to $529 for the internal model.
The 2GB Jaz drives have a maximum sustained transfer rate of 8.7MB per second (average is 7.4MB per second), which is fast enough to deliver full-secreen, full-motion video, according to Iomega. Average access time is 15.5ms and the average seek times are 10ms read/12ms write. The 2GB Jaz drive is compatible with the 1GB disks. Software included with the 2GB Jaz is Iomega's Jaz Tools.
The Iomega 2GB Jaz has a RRP of $1199 for the external model and $999 for the internal model.
