Australia hits Google swine flu map

Google Maps tracks suspect cases of deadly swine flu

Two suspect cases of the swine flu virus - which has killed more than 80 people in Mexico and infected 20 in the United States - have been pinned on a map of Queensland on a Google map tracking the global movement of the possible pandemic.

Additionally, Google's Flu Trends, an official development of Google.org and the US government’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is tracking the virus in the US.

Australian health authorities have since cleared these two suspect cases, but fear of contracting the potentially deadly virus has been spreading fast over social networking sites like Twitter.

Swine Flu is currently the top discussion topic on Twitter, and Google Trends shows swine flu symptoms as the 48th most popular search term.

The US has declared a public health emergency over the virus, however Australia is yet to confirm any official cases.
