Google launches Queensland Flood crisis response site

Flood mapping, real-time information and resources provided

Google has launched a Crisis Response site to provide the public with up to date information on the current Queensland floods.

The site includes a detailed map of affected areas based on data sourced from the Bureau of Meteorology, the Brisbane City and Ipswich City councils.

It also provides links to resources such as the Queensland Government’s flood information site, real-time updates, the Red Cross and to the state government's relief appeal donation site.

The site also includes the ABC’s interactive map on the floods based on information sourced from unverified public submissions and verified reports.

The floods have so far left some 78,000 residents in Queensland's southeast without power, and are causing network and dat centre issues throughout the state.

In addition, Optus’ network has been disrupted due to power outages as the flooding continues, while AAPT has confirmed it has closed Queensland data centre.

News of the floods is also spreading over the internet with some making headlines in most parts of the world.
