Capable of download speeds ranging from 1.1to 20 Megabits per second (Mbps), the Telstra Ultimate Mobile Wi-Fi allows up to five Wi-Fi enabled devices to connect to it wirelessly for shared mobile Internet access.

The Ultimate Mobile Wi-Fi is a similar device to Telstra's current Elite Mobile Wi-Fi but has a black design and a larger LED display that shows signal strength, the number of devices connected, and battery level. The Ultimate Mobile Wi-Fi is also the first 3G hotspot in Australia to support Wi-Fi standard N connectivity

"The Ultimate Mobile Wi-Fi device makes it easy for customers to connect up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices simultaneously at speeds up to four times faster than currently achievable using similar competitor 3G Wi-Fi hotspot products in capital CBDs and selected regional areas," said Warwick Bray, executive director, Telstra mobile products.

"Equipped with an Ultimate Mobile Wi-Fi device, businesses can connect teams or multiple Wi-Fi enabled devices wherever there is Next G network coverage. This means businesses can now take their own fast network with them on customer visits, to trade and community events, or to temporary work locations. It gives businesses the flexibility to keep people productive when they’re out on the road by connecting to email and work files."

In addition to its LED display, the Telstra Ultimate Wi-Fi modem also includes an audio alert that lets users know when devices connect and disconnect from a Wi-Fi network, along with a web-based control portal that allows users to adjust network security and Wi-Fi range settings from an Internet browser.

The Telstra Ultimate Wi-Fi modem is available from today for business customers. It is sold on a range of Telstra mobile broadband plans including $0 upfront on $49 plan that includes 7GB of data each month over 24 months. Consumers can purchase the Ultimate Mobile Wi-Fi modem from 19 July for $49 on a range of BigPond mobile broadband plans over 24 months. For more information on plans, visit Telstra's Web site.
