Microsoft Surface RT tablet touch cover keyboard fuels complaints

Some early users say the keyboard splits where it connects to the tablet.

Microsofts hip marketing may be luring people to buy its Surface RT tablets, but it hasnt prevented some customers from complaining that the touch cover keyboard falls apart.

Even though the iPad rival has only been on the marketfor a little more than two weeks, some early users say the keyboard splits where it connects to the tablet.

"My Touch Cover, in the middle at the join to the screen, is peeling. Like the top layer has come loose and is ruffling up," a user who goes by 'Br1an_G' wrote in a Surface forum last week, reports ZDNet.

Another user wrote, "Right in the middle on the seam it tore open, and pretty quickly too & On another note, that Microsoft logo on the back is certainly not etched or painted on very well. Mine is already rubbing off."

Microsofts ubiquitous Surface Movement Commercial shows dozens of people handling their Surface RT tablets -- clicking them together with keyboards, setting them up on kickstands and smacking them down, resulting in an audible clickfest.

But that hasnt been the experience of some users, and now Microsoft is admitting there is a problem.

"Microsoft makes every effort to ensure our customers receive a high quality product. We are in active contact with our Customer Support operations and are aware of a small number of instances of material separation," a spokesperson said.

Microsoft says customers who have problems with their keyboards should contact customer support.

Despite the complaints, customers are still snapping up the tablets in droves. The cheapest iteration of the device promptly sold out when it was offered for pre-order last month.

And a supposedly leaked Surface vs. iPad commercial has gone viral.
