Google Photos offers unlimited free cloud storage for photos and video

At today's Google I/O developer conference, Google announced Google Photos, which is designed to help users organize, store, edit and share their photos and videos.

SAN FRANCISCO; Does it ever feel like you take thousands of photos but rarely go back and look at them?

If you try to find a photo or just glance back through your digital memories, you're just scrolling and scrolling.

Google is trying to make that easier for you.

At today's Google I/O developer conference keynote, Anil Sabharwal, Google's director of Photos, announced Google Photos, which is designed to help users organize, store, edit and share their photos and videos.

"Think of the moments in your life," said Sabharwai. "The big moments. The small moments. The please burn the evidence moments. The sheer volume of our photos has made it harder to look at our photos and remember our moments. How often do you stand there scrolling and scrolling and scrolling through your life? Not very often."

Users can set up Google Photos to automatically organize their photos by events, as well as by their favorite people and places.

Want to find that adorable photo of your best friend's son? Now it'll be a whole lot easier. You'll be able to scroll down and see his very first baby picture because they're all organized together in a timely order.

Google also is embedding search in Google Photos so users can search for specific photos or videos.

Want to find that photo of your friends on the roller coaster? Just search for roller coaster, Hampton Beach. Google Photos should find it for you.

The Google I/O audience of mainly developers burst into applauce when Sabharwal said Google Photos will let users share their images even multiple images and video at once with whomever they choose.

However the biggest applause came when Google said users can back up and store unlimited photos and videos in the cloud for free.

Google Photos is expected to be available later today.
