Synology's annual 2018 showcase event in Sydney this week saw the company show off its new Synology Drive, active backup suite, Moments image-management system, AC2200 mesh-router and 18-Series model lineup.

"This year at Synology 2018, a lot of exciting and innovative solutions and products were announced to accelerate businesses and secure digital assets. We were happy to see so many of our users at the event to witness the amazing things Synology brings to organizations and personal life." said Derren Lu, CTO of Synology.

During the event, Synology introduced the new Synology Drive: a file access, management and synchronization portal that will come integrated with the existing Synology Office environment. It comes accompnied by Synology's new native Chat (which supports polls, bots, threaded messages and 3rd party video cofnerence integration) and MailPlus applications.

In terms of more physical products, Synology announced their new Synology Mesh Router, an AC2200 tri-band router that promises to leverage a self-organizing, self-healing node-based technology to bring customers hassle-free connectivity.

The company also showed off DS218 and DS418 NAS units, which offer 4K transcoding alongside Btrfs snapshot technology, letting users create a Windows-like restore point for their backups. The DS3018xs, FS1018, NVR1218 and VS960HD were also on display at the event.

Synology also announced that their new Active Backup for Businesses will support G Suite, Office 365 and virtual-machines. They say the new version of the data protection suite will offer differential backup, granular recovery and deduplication.

Speaking of virtual machines, Synology noted during the event that their new Virtual Machine Manger will come with support for high availability, storage migration and easy replication to maximise service up-time. It's due for release by the end of 2017.

Other announcements included Moments, a new photo-management app powered by deep-learning technology and facial recognition, and Alexa support for Synology's Audio Station, which now supports streaming from a Synoloy NAS to an Alexa-powered audio player using voice commands.

Synology say the products announced at the event will be available in multiple phases over the coming months, with a number of new software already available in the company's newly-released DSM 6.2 beta.
