Following on from last year’s G6 and V30+, 2018 is shaping up to be a big year for LG. It all starts at this year’s CES in Las Vegas. Usually a playground for sin and vice, the week-long consumer technology mecca sees Vegas become a playground for gadgets, gizmos and everything in between.

Here’s what LG brought to this year’s CES:

W8, B8, E8 and C8 OLED TVs

What’s exciting about it?

The short version? It’s like their 2017 range - but better.

As well as promising a suite of technical improvements - including support for “4K Cinema HDR”, expanded color lookup table, support for 120FPS video and better motion smoothing - LG’s 2018 TV range (consisting of the W8, C8, E8 and B8) also comes heavily-integrated with both the Google Assistant and Amazon’s Aexa. AI is pretty big pillar of LG”s approach this year - they say that all their products going forward will come with some sort of deep-learning integration.

When will it be available?

2018.

How much will it cost?

No Australian pricing has yet been announced.

Has Australian availability been confirmed yet?

As of the time of writing, local availability for the range is to be confirmed.

It's a portable projector that lets you take the HDR and 4K entertainment experience found in LG's home entertainment range with you. Appropriately, the HU80KA 4K projector also runs on WebOS 3.5 - giving you access to the same UI and experience found in the company's TVs.

Other Tidbits

While AI-tech was pretty central to LG’s pitch to journos at this year’s CES, that pitch itself wasn’t without its mishaps. During their press conference, LG debuted a robot assistant - called CLOi. CLOi is envisioned as the centerpiece of the company’s smart home prospects. However, on stage, the robot suffered a technical malfunction that didn’t exactly inspire confidence.

On the other side of things, LG did manage to live up their reputation for mind-bending innovations in form factor. Ahead of their press conference, they showed off a prototype for a 65-inch OLED display that could be rolled up like a newspaper.

Although it would be untrue to say this is the first time LG brought a ‘rollable screen’ to CES, it does feel like this kind of futuristic tech is closer to actually reaching the consumer market than ever before.
