MWC 2018: Everything Announced At The ZTE Press Conference

Though it lacks the glitzy backdrop of CES, Mobile World Congress is no less of a big deal for the tech world. In recent years, it’s become a battleground where the biggest brands compete for attention and debut their flagship mobile devices. Last year alone saw the debut of the LG G6, Huawei P10 and Sony Xperia XZ Premium and this year is shaping up to be just as chock-full of announcements.

Here’s what ZTE brought to this year’s Mobile World Congress:

ZTE Blade V9

What is it?

ZTE’s latest flagship smartphone and a return to a more traditional form-factor for the brand after the foldable Axon M.

What’s exciting about it?

There are two pillars to the sell for this one. The first is that, like many of the big new smartphones being shown at this year’s Mobile World Congress, it sees ZTE make the jump to the 18:9 aspect ratio - giving end-users more screen space to work with.

Then, there’s the camera. The Blade V9 boasts a dual lens 16MP camera with a larger aperture to capture more light, a 6P lens for reduced distortion and PDAF 2.0.

Other specs include a Snapdragon 845 processor, 3100mAh battery and up to 4GB of RAM. It’ll also arrive running Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, which is nice.

How much will it cost?

In Europe, the ZTE Blade V9 will be priced at €269. No word yet on local pricing.

Has Australian availability been confirmed yet?

Australian availability is to be confirmed.
