First announced at this year's CES, Intel has now launched their latest high-speed, low-capacity Optane technology for mainstream consumers - the new Intel 800P Optane SSD.

Intel say "the 800P excels with low queue depth random workloads, where most client system activity takes place, and offers uncompromising responsiveness and throughput."

The new SSD comes in an M.2 form-factor, offering greater compatibility, and will be available in 58GB and 118GB capacities. Intel say that their Optane SSDs are now supported on 280 motherboards from vendors like ASRock, GIGABYTE, ASUS, MSI, BIOSTAR, EVGA and SuperMicro.

Intel also say that they measured the memory usage patterns of users in order to optimised the 800P to offer the biggest difference where it will be felt the most. In addition, they also say that their Optane SSD is resistant to this ordinary decline in performance other SSDs ('steady state performance').

The Intel Optane SSD 800P is available now, with the 58GB model priced at US$129 and the 118GB model priced at US$199.
