Assassin’s Creed 2019: Release date, platforms and location rumours

Rumours claim that the next Assassin's Creed title won't be released until 2019. Here's everything we know so far, including a possible release date window, platform support and possible location details.

Assassin’s Creed has been a household name in the gaming world since the release of the first in the series back in 2007. Although it has had a rocky reputation in recent years with buggy releases, 2017’s Assassin’s Creed Origins brought life and excitement back into the franchise and now we can’t wait for the next.

Rumours claim that there won’t be a release in 2018, leading us to believe that the next Assassin’s Creed title won’t be released until 2019. Here’s everything we know so far about Assassin’s Creed 2019, including a possible release date window, game location and platform availability.

Assassin’s Creed 2019 release date: When will it be out?

So, when should we expect the next title in the Assassin’s Creed series to become available? You’ve still got some time to wait, as it’s not expected out until autumn 2019.

While once upon a time Ubisoft would crank out an Assassin’s Creed title every year like clockwork, the quality of the games suffered throughout the years and, with 2017’s Assassin’s Creed Origins, the team decided to take an extra year for development.

As you probably know, Assassin’s Creed Origins was highly praised in almost every aspect, with some calling it the best ever in the series, so it seems like spending a little more time on development is a good idea.

According to a Comicbook.com report, the Ubisoft team started to work on the 2019 title full-time in early 2017, prior to the launch of Assassin’s Creed Origins.

In the meantime, why not take a look at our selection of the best PS4 games of 2018?

Assassin’s Creed 2019 platforms: Which platforms will it be available on?

While we’re still some way away from Ubisoft confirming platform support for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed title, we can make an educated guess by looking at support for Origins. The game featured support for Xbox One, PS4 and PC with 4K support on the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, and we feel like it’ll be the same with the 2019 title too.

Some may be holding out hope for Nintendo Switch support because Assassin’s Creed on the go sounds incredible, but we’re doubtful that the hardware could power the kind of experience offered by the game. And even if it could, we think it’d be too aggressive on battery life to make it playable when out and about. We’re happy to be proven wrong though, Ubisoft!

Assassin’s Creed 2019 location: Where will it be set?

According to a report from Comicbook.com’s Liam Robertson, famed for his work on Unseen64 uncovering cancelled games, the next Assassin’s Creed title will take place in Ancient Greece. Robertson also goes on to claim that Ancient Greece was originally going to be a part of Assassin’s Creed Origins alongside Ancient Egypt, but Ubisoft decided there was enough scope to give it a full game.

Robertson cites multiple sources “linked to Ubisoft” and while you should take it with a pinch of salt, it’s worth noting that the sources previously provided accurate information about Assassin’s Creed Origins, including its setting, final name and even artwork via an official t-shirt. Not a bad track record if we do say so!

What wasn’t divulged, however, was the time period that it’d be set in, though any of Greece’s several historical periods (Bronze, Byzantine, etc) would make an interesting environment to roam around in.

It’s a similar story in terms of actual gameplay; no details were gleamed from the Ubisoft source this time around, and we imagine it’ll be quite some time before Ubisoft officially release any gameplay footage.
