HMD Global has unveiled its next mid-tier effort, the Nokia 7.1, and confirmed the new device will be the company's first handset available through JB Hi-Fi's SIM-only plans.
The new Nokia 7.1 features a notched 5.8-inch FHD+ display, Snapdragon 636 processor, 3GB of RAM, 64GB of on-board storage and a Ziess Optics dual-lens rear camera (12-megepixels + 5-megapixels). It runs on Android 8.1 Oreo paired with a 3060mAh battery and also comes with support for fast charging over USB Type-C.
The key callout here is a new technology called PureDisplay.
HMD say that the Nokia 7.1's PureDisplay allows it achieve a higher 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio well suited for HDR content. The device will also upscale non-HDR content in real-time using a dedicated 16-bit engine and automatically adjust brightness and contrast to suit ambient lighting conditions.
Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer, HMD Global says that "almost two thirds of videos around the world are viewed on mobile which is why we’ve introduced our PureDisplay screen technology, to give our fans a premium viewing experience on a smartphone. The Nokia 7.1 even offers real-time SDR to HDR conversion, meaning you can experience HDR quality entertainment, even when your content is not."
Availability Available in Gloss Midnight Blue, The Nokia 7.1 launches into retail on Wednesday 17th October for $499 at Harvey Norman or JB Hi Fi.
The Nokia 7.1 will also be the first HMD Nokia device available via JB Hi-Fi's new SIM-Only plans.
According to Andy Ellis, Director of Communications and Product Services at JB Hi-Fi, the retailer is "thrilled to announce that the new Nokia 7.1 will be available outright at JB Hi-Fi for $499 or only $199 for customers who opt for our new $65 BYO plan."
"We’re proud to already offer a range of Nokia mobile devices in our stores across Australia and we’re committed to continuing to expand our smartphone offering with the latest releases," he said.
