MWC 2019: Australia won't be getting the LG G8 ThinQ. Instead, they'll get the LG G8S

The LG G8 ThinQ was only announced this week but Australians will be getting a slightly-different variant of the device when it arrives later in the year.

Although this week's initial announcement did suggest that LG G8 ThinQ and V50 ThinQ would be coming to the local market, it turns out Australian users will actually end up getting the LG G8s instead of the mainline flagship.

The LG G8s ThinQ loses the quad DAC, MicroSD slot and Crystal Sound display but holds onto the unique hands-free navigation features of the 2019 flagship. It also features a larger (and lower resolution) display and less out-of-the-box storage space with 64GB instead of 128GB.

In exchange for these sacrifices, LG say that these sacrifices allow the G8s ThinQ to land at a more-affordable and competitive price-point - akin to something like the Samsung Galaxy S10e or iPhone XR. It also has a better, triple-lens rear camera to the regular G8's dual-lens one.

PC World understands that, when the device arrives in Australia, it'll be priced at a local recommended retail price of $1199.

What does this mean to consumers? It means that, if you're after the fully-fledged LG G8 ThinQ experience, you'll probably have to look at importing it.

Disclosure - PC World Australia's coverage of this year's MWC in Barcelona was sponsored by Oppo who covered the costs of our flights and accommodation.
