In a bid to cater to both ends of the market, Samsung has launched two new Android tablets for Australian consumers.

The Galaxy Tab S5e and Tab A 10.1 are updated versions of their predecessors, the S4 and A 10.5 respectively. One is designed to be ultraportable and the other is rugged enough to entertain the whole family.

According to a press release, both run up-to-date Android Pie 9.0 out of the box.

“At Samsung, we believe in choice and Australians deserve devices that are suited for their needs whether this be home entertainment, portability, or smart connectivity,” said Garry McGregor, Vice President of IT and Mobile at Samsung Australia.

Originally announced ahead of Samsung’s February Unpacked press conference, the S5e ditches the S Pen and headphone jack of its predecessor but retains the sAMOLED screen and AKG/Dolby ATMOS speakers. It runs on a Snapdragon 670 processor, up to 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage.

The tablet will be available in both 4G and Wi-Fi variants and several colors (black, gold and silver).

Meanwhile, the family-friendly Galaxy Tab A 10.1 is named for its screen size. It's slightly smaller than the Tab 10.5 but maintains the same resolution.

Sporting the same Lassen O+ processor and dual-lens rear camera (8-megapixel + 5-megapixel) as its predecessor, the Tab A 10.1 opts for only 2 Dolby ATMOS speakers instead of the four found in the Tab A 10.5. The battery is also 15% smaller.

The new Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e and Tab A 10.1  are both available now at major retailers and through Samsung’s website.

The Tab S5e starts at AU$649 and the Tab A 10.1 starts at AU$349.
