ACS elects new president

The Australian Computer Society (ACS) has elected Edward Mandla as president and Chris Avram, Vic, as vice president for two-year terms.

A member of the ACS for the past 18 years, and ACS NSW branch chair for the past two years, Mandla is also managing director of Alt-U, a management consultancy focused on human agility solutions.

During his term as president Mandla plans to focus on raising the profile of the society and enhancing its effectiveness in the public arena. "I think IT has been a really insular industry. In fact, most IT professionals haven’t realised that IT touches everyone. To further our profession, the profile of the entire industry needs to be raised," Mandla said.

Mandla takes over as national president on January 1 2004, when current president, Richard Hogg steps down after two years in the top job.
