Anite opens regional HQ in Melbourne

In the wake of inking a $30 million contract with the Victorian government, IT services company Anite International will today launch its Asia-Pacific region headquarters in Melbourne.

The expansion includes the establishment of a development centre creating more than 100 full-time jobs for Victorian IT professionals by mid 2004.

The contract win with the Victorian Office of Housing in October last year was the largest ICT tender awarded by the Victorian government in 2002.

Anite International specialises in software solutions and services to law enforcement, telecommunications, travel and government sectors.

Martyn Phillips, the company's Asia-Pacific managing director, said the headquarters will position Anite to develop a Web-based IT system for the Office of Housing using Microsoft's .Net platform to manage 72,000 public housing properties.

"We saw enormous value to the business in utilising Victoria’s talented pool of IT resources for this project," he said.

Victorian Information and Communication Technology Minister Marsha Thomson, said Anite’s decision to "set up shop" in the state was a major windfall as the company has a revenue target of $14 million for the year ending April 2004.

Anite International is one of the first companies to receive assistance from the recently launched "Victoria .Net Cluster", funded by the Victorian government under the Next Wave Program and sponsored by Microsoft. The cluster is a collaboration of a number of companies including software vendors and developers.
