NEC launches telephony software

NEC Australia has launched new computer telephony integration (CTI) software, called VoiceOperator, which it believes to be an "ideal server-based solution".

NEC thinks VoiceOperator will prove popular in the small and medium sized enterprise market, will be shipped with NEC Express 5800 Series servers.

The program is "icon-driven", and designed to run on the Windows NT 4.0 operating system. According to NEC, "VoiceOperator resides on an NEC Express 5800 Series server linked directly to the user's PABX".

Possible applications for the software, NEC says, are: ticket reservation and telephone payment systems and 24-hour telephone-based ordering systems.

VoiceOperator is available in a developer's kit, enabling users to customise the "interactive voice response structure". The kit includes the software, an Express 5800 110Pro/s server, Windows NT Workstation, a sound card, microphone, and dialogue voice/fax board.

A "pre-made" structure is also available from NEC resellers.
