The ATI Radeon HD 5870 has 1600 stream processing units, 80 texture units and 2.15 billion 40 nanometre (nm) transistors. The graphics card features 1GB of GDDR5 RAM and is optimised for use with both the Windows 7 operating system and Microsoft Direct X 11. The HD 5870 provides up to 2.72 terafl ops of power and has an engine clock speed of 850MHz. Users can also take advantage of the card’s eyefi nity capability, which allows up to six separate monitors to be connected to a single GPU and operated as a single display. These can then display duplicated mode operations or extended mode, which extends the desktop across all displays. The card uses up to 188W when in full operation, which is reduced to 27W when idle. It supports a maximum VGA output resolution of 2048 x 1536 and a maximum HDMI 1.3 port output of 1920 x 1200. This increases to 2560 x 1600 when using DVI or DisplayPort outputs. Other features include OpenGL 3.2 support and image enhancement quality technology.
