Ford equipping supervisory speed limits on 2015 Mustangs

Parents can set limits to top speed and speaker volume on select 2015 Fords

Top speed and volume restrictions can be placed on select 2015 Fords, including the Mustang, with the rolling out of the company’s supervisory MyKey technology.

Ford’s MyKey technology allows parents to set limits on how fast select Ford cars can go, or to the volume of their sound system.

The feature, which debuted on the Fiesta ST, will come equipped on 2015 models of the Focus, Mondeo, Mustang and Fiesta range.

Parents will be able to throttle speeds to an even slower 110km/h or 100km/h, from 140km/h, and enable speed alerts.

Other driver assist technologies include the ability to prevent the sound system from playing until passengers up front fasten their seatbelts, and triggering the ‘low-fuel’ warning light to come on at an earlier 140km distance to empty.

The extension of Ford’s MyKey technology follows findings conducted in conjunction with the NRMA.

“We hope this research by Ford supported by NRMA helps to raise this important discussion with parents and young drivers to help curb unnecessary incidents,” said Jack Haley, NRMA Vehicle Expert.

“Ford’s MyKey technology can help parents set limits and guidelines for their young drivers, making the roads a safer place for all motorists.”

The American car company commissioned Galaxy Research to survey 400 parents and 432 ‘young people’ across Australia.
