Sony Mobile Confirms Android Oreo For Xperia Range

Sony Mobile Australia has confirmed that the company’s latest range of Xperia smartphone devices will be receiving a software upgrade to the newly-minted Android 8.0 Oreo.

John Featherstone, Managing Director of Sony Mobile Oceania, says that “we are delighted to announce the availability of Android 8.0 Oreo for our Xperia owners.”

“We’ve been working hard to bring this major update to as many of our devices as possible. Please stay tuned to the blog and @SonyMobileNews for all the latest as it happens.”

Sony have confirmed the patch will roll out to owners of the Xperia X, Xperia X Performance, Xperia XZ, Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XA1 and Xperia XA1 Ultra.

However, they’re being tight-lipped about exactly when this will happen.

The official line from them notes that “software rollouts are a phased process, timing and availability will vary by market and/or operator. Most models supported by some operator/ market exceptions will apply.”

When it does go out to customers, customers  will gain access to a number of new features including notification dots, picture-in-picture mode, improvements to battery life and a number of other aspects of the Android experience.

Google themselves have confirmed that smartphone vendors Essential, HMD Global, Huawei, HTC, LG, Motorola, Samsung and others will be pushing out a similar software upgrade for their customers in due time.
