Huawei’s new P30 might be the best phone you can find for $1099

Huawei’s P30 Pro looks to push the brand’s photography-first approach to new heights, the standard P30 looks to land at a more-affordable price by stripping away a few of the flagship perks.
Available alongside its more expensive counterpart, the Huawei P30 features a 6.1-inch FHD+ OLED display, Kirin 980 processor, 6GB of RAM, 3650mAh battery and 128GB of on-board storage. As with the Mate 20 Pro, you’ll be able to expand the memory via Huawei’s Nano Memory card format. Both dual and single SIM variants of the P30 Pro are available, depending on your retailer/carrier of choice.
Of course, the headline act here is the camera. Where the P20 Pro offered 3x optical zoom, 5x hybrid zoom and 10x digital zoom, the P30 Pro ups the ante to 3x optical zoom, 5x hybrid zoom and 20x digital zoom. It’s not quite as extreme as the P30 Pro’s 10x hybrid and 50x digital zooms (the P30 isn’t capable of either due to the absence of a periscope prism and Time-of-Flight sensor from the camera configuration) but the specs here are still impressive, given the price. The P30’s triple-lens setup shakes out to the following:
- 40-megapixel SuperSpectrum sensor (f/1.8)
- 16-megapixel ultrawide angle lens (f/2.2)
- 8-megapixel telephoto lens (f/2.4)
As with the P30 Pro, two colors are available: Aurora and Breathing Crystal.
Credit: Huawei In terms of what you aren’t getting here that you are in the Pro model, the P30 lacks IP68 water resistance, wireless charging, acoustic display speaker and 40W wired fast-charging.
The Huawei P30 will go on pre-order on the 27th of March and officially launch into Australia on the 14th of April. The single SIM version of the device will be available through Vodafone. The Dual SIM version of the P30 will be available through Optus, JB Hi-Fi, MobileCiti and Kogan at a recommended retail price of $1099.
