What is a SuperSpectrum sensor?

The SuperSpectrum sensor is a component found in the new Huawei P30 and P30 Pro. It is one of the two key innovations that allow Huawei’s latest handsets to raise the bar previously set by the P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro.

Integrated into the primary lens on the handset, the 40-megapixel SuperSpectrum sensor was co-engineered by Huawei and Leica and allows for better low-light camera performance and higher ISO ranges of up to 409,600 than was previously possible for the company.

According to Huawei, it achieves this by integrating a cooling system directly into the sensor. The SuperSpectrum sensor relies on this innovation to reduce image noise.

The SuperSpectrum sensor is currently found in only two devices: the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro.

It is currently unclear whether Huawei plan to keep the technology to themselves or license it to third-parties.
