STYLISTIC Q702

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.

The docking system is simple to use when docking and undocking the tablet. My biggest gripe with the device is the keyboard. It feels too small and is unresponsive for faster, touch typing.

The touch screen is responsive and has the added functionality of a stylus. The stylus is compact, well weighted and comfortable even with extended use. Handwriting recognition is exact and clear, and the conversion to text surprisingly accurate.

The Q702's specifications are somewhat generic for this level of device. There's nothing glaringly impressive, yet also nothing disappointing or lacking. Boot times from sleep are very quick, apps launch and run without hesitation, and switching between apps is seamless and smooth.

Watching a 1080p movie is clear and fluid with no jittering noted at all. The inclusion of 4G/LTE is a nice addition and saves having to use a USB dongle or Wi-Fi pocket hotspot.

Battery life is excellent. With basic browsing, Skype and app usage each day, and with the device left on standby without being attached to mains power, the Q702 lasted for several days.

Security is fairly standard for Windows 8 with the added benefit of a fingerprint scanner. However, I was unable to get this working. The front camera is obviously a fairly low resolution but works well enough for Skype video calling.

Overall, I found the Q702 a decent hybrid notebook/tablet in a stylish package. It offers excellent performance with minimal lag, and good battery life, but the keyboard is somewhat lacking in response, and size was an issue for me.

Having spent a week with the Q702, I have found it to be an excellent tool for work. Would I buy a Q702? No. The only reason would be the price point. I can't fault the unit, though I do find it quite expensive.
