I have had the pleasure of owning notebooks from Dynabook’s predecessor Toshiba for both work and leisure in the past. Toshiba’s attention to quality of build and design of the notebooks is second to none. The re-branding to Dynabook and the launch of the new range was completed in early 2019. I am pleased to confirm that not only did Dynabook further refine what Toshiba has left off; they have set a new benchmark for the ultra-light notebook category.
I am totally amazed by how lightweight the Dynabook Portégé® X30L-G notebook was when I unboxed to reveal a beautifully crafted notebook. I first noticed how super thin and ultra-light weighted it was. Weighing only at 870 grams, perhaps lighter than some large screen smart phones on today’s market, this notebook did not place any demand on my arms or shoulders when I carried it with me for most of my work day.
Being so thin and compact, I thought it may need extra padding for protection in my work bag, but I am again pleasantly surprised by how much strength Dynabook has built into the hardy notebook skin. Dynabook Portégé® X30L-G notebook has been certified to a military grade for toughness. The MIL-STD-810 military-grade certification covers for temperature, humidity, dust protection, and the all-important “drop” resiliency. These factors are most reassuring for me as a consumer.
The slim-line design is packed with amazing processing power and connectivity features. I am again pleasantly surprised that the Dynabook Portégé® X30L-G notebook has all the essential features I expect on today’s notebook offering on the market. It comes with a core i7 10th generation processor running Windows 10 pro 64bit. The Portégé® X30L-G is loaded with premium, high-performance components, including a 256 Gb SSD solid state hard disk. Don’t let its tiny form factor and feather-light weight fool you, it is a powerful device with enough grunt to run my busy workday involving multiple on-line presentations on Microsoft Teams and Zoom platforms as well as processing graphics heavy CAD plans and architectural drawings. Not one time did the Dynabook Portégé® X30L-G notebook skip a beat.
The 13.3-inch display is so sharp and clear, I have no problems pushing out full high definition content on the 1,920 x 1,080 pixel display. The display is bright and easy on the eye. I love the matt finish which reduces screen glare especially when working in a bright open-plan workspace. The in-built speakers push out a powerful sound, with the option for external speakers via an in-built audio jack. The in-built cameras, yes, there are two cameras, put up a great image in online meetings. One camera is used for video and the other is for facial recognition by Windows.
All the essential connectivity options are included, a LAN port for wired Ethernet network connection, in-built super-fast Wi-Fi, two USB-B ports, one USB-C port for charging and one HDMI port. The keyboard feels great with soft touch keys and a lovely backlighting system for every key, perfect for those working in low light conditions. The trackpad is responsive and easy to use.
I have saved the best feature till last, the battery life is amazing. The device only required one charge the night before my work day and it lasted an entire workday without needing another charge. By placing the device on standby during my mini breaks in between meetings, I was able to use the notebook for up to 10 hours a day. A full charge requires only an hour using its super slim and compact AC adapter which comes with the Dynabook.
I highly recommend the Dynabook Portégé® X30L-G notebook for everyday business use, it is a benchmark setting notebook of its generation in the lightweight category. I would rate it 4 out of 5 for its slimline design, impressive battery life and outstanding processing power.
