Eee PC gets the Windows treatment

  • When the Eee PC first landed on the Australian market in December, it made huge waves due to its low price and ultraportable size. The original Eee PC came pre-installed with a version of Linux, but now ASUS has released a version that runs Windows XP. ASUS hopes most of its orders will come from the education segment, but retailers should also see the unit sometime soon.

  • Nevertheless, for basic needs, the Eee PC is now more desirable than ever. It's the perfect unit for Web browsing and word processing.

  • As for specifications, the Windows-based Eee PC retains the same hardware configuration as the original Eee PC; however, it does cost slightly more: $579 with Windows XP, as opposed to $499 for the original Linux version.
