Calvin Klein meets the Eee PC

ASUS unleashes new laptops amid Calvin Klein's latest runway creations.

  • ASUS hosted a fashion event at the Overseas Passenger Terminal in Sydney's Circular Quay yesterday, showcasing the company's brand new 'Green collection' laptops, as well as Calvin Klein's latest threads. The star of the show was definitely the Bamboo laptop, but also of interest were the stylish new Eee PCs and the Intel Atom–based N10.

  • The Bamboo Series laptop represents ASUS' commitment to the environment, manufactured using a renewable resource instead of plastic. It feels great to use, it's sturdy and the case slightly reduces the weight of the laptop.

  • Around the edges of the Bamboo Series laptop sit new-age ports such as eSATA and HDMI.

  • The bamboo laptop is sure to fit in to any environment with wooden floors and timber furniture. It really was the star of the show.

  • This is the N10. It's a conventional notebook with a very portable size and an Intel Atom CPU.

  • The N10 has a 10.2in screen, 2GB of DDR2 RAM and a 250GB SATA hard drive. It comes with discrete graphics, which give you a bit more oomph when it comes to all-round performance. The discrete graphics can be switched off via a hardware toggle and a restart, and the laptop will revert to using its integrated graphics chip, which is handy for when you're on the road and want to curb your battery usage.

  • Here it is, the latest model in the Eee PC range — Eee PC S101. It really does look good with its clean lines, brushed metal and chrome trim, and it's no longer aimed directly at students and budget users, but also users with a keen sense of fashion.

  • You get an Intel Atom N270 CPU, a 10.2in screen, 1GB of DDR2 RAM and a 16GB solid-state hard drive. This model doesn't yet have a built-in 3G module, but its combination of usable size and light weight nevertheless make it a brilliant model for a road warrior.

  • And now to the catwalk fashion. This one-piece, long-sleeved number was definitely the highlight of the night on the runway.

  • The N10 gets some love from one of the models.

  • One of the more conventional ensembles on display, along with a brand new Eee PC.

  • The colours of the new laptops definitely go well with this season's brown ensembles.

  • Don't be fooled — none of the laptops on display need a bag that big to be carried in.

  • We couldn't get past the headgear.

  • Long legs and laptops — definitely a winning combination.

  • In the end, a fun night was had by all, and as usual, the tech journos were the last to leave the event, out-staying and out-drinking the fashionistas.
