In pictures: Is the Adamo by Dell the world's thinnest notebook?

Dell's Adamo notebook is sure to catch the eye of style gurus.

  • The Adamo by Dell isn't your typical ultra-thin laptop for everyday users. It's for those of you who are tired of Mac kids running off at the mouth about how good their Macbook Air looks compared to your 'Dull'. Now you can show them up with something that looks good, supposedly feels good and has a bigger screen, but, surprisingly, is a little slower. Oh indeed: the Adamo will be available with either a 1.2GHz or 1.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, but you can pick up a Macbook Air with an 1.6GHz or 1.86GHz CPU.

  • The rear of the Adamo notebook is where all the physical connections reside, and these include a DisplayPort, two USB 2.0 ports, a combination e-SATA/USB2.0 port and an Ethernet port. You also get 802.11n wireless networking and mobile broadband (at least in the more expensive model). It doesn't have a built-in optical drive. You can pick up an Adamo with 2GB or 4GB of RAM.

  • Options for the Adamo by Dell include an external optical drive, external hard drives and USB thumbdrives — but let's face it, you can buy those anywhere. However, if you want them to match your Adamo, you'll have to buy them from the Adamo by Dell site.

  • Here's the Adamo by Dell in a typical environment; obviously most people will use this laptop while sipping Moet at the fanciest bar in town.

  • Stop the press! Today Dell announced what it claims is the world's thinnest laptop. Is this for real, or just a bunch of codswallop? Well, from the pics and numbers we've seen it certainly does look thinner than anything currently on the market, and at 1.6cm it's certainly thinner than the thickest point of the Macbook Air and Lenovo's X301. And just look at the funky way that dude is carrying it! Soon we'll all be carrying our super-light, ultra-thin laptops this way.

  • Although it's hard to see from the pic, the Adamo is constructed from machined aluminium and has plenty of design details (which just look like vent holes to us).

  • From the looks of it, the Adamo by Dell has clean lines and edges, a huge 13.4in screen without much of a bezel around it, and it goes well with spiky hair, flares and high heels. It's available for purchase at www.adamobydell.com, and pricing starts at $3699 for the 1.2GHz version.
