In pictures: the Alienware 'Area 52' roadshow

Alienware has an Airstream caravan chock-full of its latest laptops and PCs to show off, and it's touring it around Australia. We got a chance to take a quick peek -- it's in Sydney at the moment, in Circular Quay.

  • Straying into desktop replacement territory is the chunky Alienware M17x -- we reviewed [[artnid:259209|a similar, albeit now obsolete, model]] a few years ago and we were very impressed with its power and style.

  • You can also sit down and try your hand at Need For Speed: Shift 2 on an Alienware system and Logitech driving wheel.

  • There's also a [[artnid:305199|flatscreen TV]] stuck to the wall of the Airstream, showing Alienware promotional videos.

  • The Alienware Area 52 Airstream will be touring around Australia -- it's in Sydney at the moment from the 19th to the 21st of July, sitting under the train tracks at Circular Quay. • It's definitely stretching the use of the word 'portable', but we have a soft spot for the behemoth that is the Alienware M18x. Its 18.4in, 1080p display looks great, it's got bucketloads of power and there's plenty of space to rest your wrists.

  • The [[artnid:391075|Alienware M11x]] is the company's smallest notebook, but it packs in a hell of a lot of power. It might be a fair bit heavier than a netbook, but its [[artnid:373950|Sandy Bridge]] Core i7 CPU means it has just as much processing grunt as a full-size laptop.

  • One step up in size is the Alienware M14x. It's still reasonably portable but has even more power and customisation options than the smaller M11x.

  • There's Intel branding all over the Alienware Area 52 Airstream, and each laptop is set up and running a video game to show off its graphics and processing power.
