Belkin's ScreenCast AV4 allows you to connect HDMI devices to your TV, even if those devices are located in another room

  • What better way is there to spend a wet Sydney day than lounging around the house watching movies or playing games. Imagine now, that your Blu-ray player, gaming console or set-top box aren't even in the lounge room with you while you watch. Are you tripped out yet? If so, read on.

  • Belkin has just announced its ScreenCast AV4 Wireless AV-to-HDTV Adapter, which is a kit that allows you to wirelessly stream video from various HDMI-enabled devices to your HDMI-equipped TV. It's goal is to free you from the mess of cables that can often be found behind your TV. Simply put, it's a device that allows you to store your entertainment devices, be it a Blu-ray player or console, away from your TV and even in another room.

  • The ScreenCast AV4 has two units: the transmitter, and the receiver. The device in the picture is the receiver and it's hooked up to a TV using a single HDMI cable (an expensive one by the look of it). It grabs the wireless stream from the transmitter, which sends the digital signal from an HDMI device over the 5GHz frequency spectrum.

  • This is the transmitter. This unit has to be situated near your HDMI AV devices because they all need to be connected to it in order for their content to be streamed to the receiver.

  • The transmitter can accommodate up to four HDMI devices and it will transmit Full HD video, surround sound (up to 7.1) and even 3D video to the receiver that's plugged in to the TV. It's also HDCP compliant, which means that you'll have no problems watching Blu-ray discs through this solution. Belkin says it has an operating range of up to 30m and that it shouldn't be prone to interference from other networks or wireless devices due to the technology that it uses to send the uncompressed data.

  • It comes with a little remote control so that you can select the video input that you desire to watch. An IR blaster is included so that infrared signals can be sent back to your HDMI devices. This allows you to use your remote controls as per usual (even if your Blu-ray or set-top box are in another room), by simply pointing them at your TV.

The ScreenCast AV4 Wireless AV-to-HDTV Adapter will be available in December at a cost of $300.
