Shape of things to come: Phones, TVs and more are starting to throw us curves
Tech vendors are no longer playing it straight: Rather, they’re pumping out new smartphones, TVs and other devices in curvaceous new forms to better fit your hands or improve your view. Here’s a look at some of the most form-fitting, eye-catching ones around.
Curvy TV Samsung’s 105-inch curved Ultra High Def U9000 TV prototype got upstaged at a pre-CES 2014 event when action movie director Michael Bay walked off the stage in a state of confusion. But here we’ll focus on the LCD TV, which like other curved sets, promises a wider field of view and more cinematic experience. Can’t wait to hear the pricing…
Curve TV 2 LG’s 77-inch OLED model promises four times the resolution of current High Def sets. Pricing for the TV, which LG claims is the biggest of its ilk, is still under wraps.
Curvy Keyboard You set your smartphone or small tablet in the middle of this device, which holds it in place with a special “micro suction” system and sets up a Bluetooth connection. You hold TREWGrip in both hands and you type, as shown, on a QWERTY keyboard that’s actually on the underside: it’s been split and turned. But the vendor says that if you know how to type, then practice and muscle memory will make you almost as fast as your regular keyboard. A battery gives about 10 hours of typing. You can see it in action in this video. It’s supposed to ship later this year, priced at about $250.
Curvy smartphone LG announced at CES 2014 that it was bringing its G Flex curved Android smartphone to the United States via AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile. It boasts a 6-inch OLED HD display that LG says provides a cinematic viewing experience and ergonomic excellence. Pricing to be announced.
Curvy iPhone This design appears to be in the very earliest of rumory stages, and is based on a patent filing by Apple for a curved touch surface that some have interpreted to mean a curved screen.
