Nikon's Coolpix P900 camera takes zooming to a whole new level> it has a lens that can shoot from a wide angle of 24mm, all the way up to a tele-zoom angle of 2000mm. That's an 83x optical zoom capability, and Nikon has even added a feature called Dynamic Fine Zoom that can take that to a crazy 4000mm, or 166x.

While a tripod will be a must when using this camera at anywhere near its maximum optical zoom range, Nikon has implemented a new Dual Detect Optical Vibration Reduction feature for stabilisation, and there is a zoom control on the barrel of the lens, which it says can also help to reduce camera shake.

It's a 16-megapixel camera with a backside illuminated (BSI) CMOS sensor, for improved light gathering, and the processor is Nikon's Expeed C2. The ISO sensitivity goes up to 6400, and there are plentiful modes for aiding your shot selection, including HDR. You even get 'moon' and 'bird-watching' modes, which select the best settings for capturing these subjects.

Other features include a built-in flash, Wi-Fi, and NFC for easier connectivity to mobile devices for the purposes of sharing photos quickly to social media. There is a 'snap-back zoom' feature that allows you to quickly zoom out a bit in cases where a subject might be falling out of your frame.

There is a 3in screen for framing your photos, in addition to an electronic viewfinder (EVF). The screen is hinged, which comes in useful when you want to capture images from impossible angles, or for when you want to attempt a selfie.

The Nikon Coolpix P900 goes on sale from 19 March, but pricing won't be known until it reaches retailers.
