LG G6: unboxing, hands on review and detail shots

LG's new flagship Android smartphone is here. Is it any good?

  • LG's new flaghship Android smartphone, the G6 has arrived. Is it any good? We'll be reviewing it soon but here are some early images with some early thoughts.

  • The LG G6's box

  • The LG G6 unboxed. Just the standard fare.

  • The G6 is a monolithic black. The front is coated with Gorilla Glass 3 while the back is coated in Gorilla Glass 5. It's relatively thin for a 5.7-inch phone so we recommend using a case to protect the glass.

  • The rear-mounted fingerprint reader is also the primary power button. This will separate people into lovers and haters. It's more useful to turn on when you're holding it, but it's tricky to when it's on a desk.

  • A USB-C port is included. It offers fast charging instead of (slow) wireless charging which is available overseas.

A headphone jack (yay!) and a dual camera. The latter has two 13-megapixel cameras - one is wide angle and the other is regular. We've already been impressed with its low-light performance.

  • A metal band surrounds the two glass halves. The whole phone is IP68 certified (30mins in 1.5m of water). We've already used it in a steam room and shower.

  • The screen has a 18:9 aspect ration. This allows you to split it into two matching halves for different activities and LG includes some applications to do this with.

  • Over 80% of the top surface is the screen. There's very little bezel compared to other phones. It's also quite thick but then there's a 3,300mAh battery inside. We look forward to living with it for a while.
