Top cameras for budding photographers

Get creative!

Here are a few of our favourite cameras for those of you who want to get a little more serious about your photography. We've included five of our favourite cameras that we think are easy to use and which produce great results. Going from a compact camera to a more advanced model can sometimes be a little daunting, but we think any of these cameras are a good step up if you want to start getting more creative with your photos.

The Olympus XZ-1 is the most accessible camera on the list. It's small and has manual controls that will allow you to learn the ins and outs of photography easily. Plus its OLED screen is superb. Likewise, the Olympus and Panasonic Micro Four Thirds based cameras offer a good mix of portability and control, and you can swap lenses to your liking (although they are expensive).

We've also included two of our favourite digital SLR cameras: Nikon's D7000 and Canon's 60D. Consider these cameras if you really want to get serious about your photography, but choose wisely because once you commit yourself to one brand and start buying lenses for it, you will have to stick with it.
