Maxtor enters 7200 RPM category with new hard drive

Maxtor has launched two new hard drives -- the DiamondMax Plus 2500 and the DiamondMax 3400 -- the former being the company's first foray into the 7200 revolution per minute (RPM) category of hard drives.

The DiamondMax Plus 2500, with capacity points of 7.5GB and 10GB, 512K cache buffer and a 7200 RPM spindle speed, is ideal for high-performance desktop systems according to Maxtor.

The DiamondMax 3400 has capacity points of 3.4GB up to 13.6GB and holds 3400 megabytes per platter. The drive features 9.0 millisecond seek time, 5400 RPM spindle speed, 256K cache buffer and UltraDMA 33 compatibility, which improves throughput speeds by doubling the data transfer rate to 33MBps.

Both drives come with a three-year warranty and are backed by Maxtor's "No Quibble" service support.

The drives will be available later this month, pricing for them will be released at that time.
