Victoria launches Broadband Framework

The Victorian government has announced $137 million of broadband initiatives as part of its Broadband Framework.

The state is Australia's largest broadband user and Victorian ICT Minister Marsha Thomson said the framework will ensure the government uses the most up-to-date technologies as part of the framework.

"Over the next 18 months, the Bracks government will progressively roll out additional broadband initiatives under the six strategies detailed in the Framework," Thomson said.

Through the Telecommunications Purchasing and Management Strategy (TPAMS), the Victorian government has brokered a telecommunications deal to roll out more than $50 million worth of infrastructure across the state.

"By prioritizing the uptake of new technology, the establishment of the Government's Broadband Framework aims to ensure Victoria is one of the best connected communities and most effective users of broadband in the world," Thomson said.
