Virgin Mobile follows Vodafone, doubles data on selected plans

Virgin's $60 and $90 postpaid plans will receive double the regular data allowance

Virgin Mobile has followed Vodafone's lead by announcing it will double data on selected plans as part of a Christmas promotion, but the offer will only apply to two postpaid plans.

The telco announced today that its $60 and $90 postpaid plans, and the equivalent BYO plans, will receive double the regular data allowance, provided customers sign up by Monday, 13 January 2014.

The $60 Virgin plan will jump from 1.5GB to 3GB of included data, while the $90 plan will see a rise from 3GB to 6GB of data.

Virgin Mobile's Director of Proposition and Strategy, Derek Cummins, said the offer will suit the telco's "active online" customers.

"Our customers have always been particularly active online, and we know apps are now an integral part of our customers' everyday lives.

In line with this, and our promise to give more, we're thrilled to be offering our customers the opportunity to enjoy more data on selected plans for the upcoming months with our double data deal."

The double data deal will apply to any new customers signing up to a 24 month postpaid contract plan, as well as any existing Vodafone customers who upgrade their plan.

For BYO plans, the double data offer will be valid per month, as long as users remain on the eligible plan.

Virgin Mobile has has confirmed that the double data offer is valid for mobile plans only, so mobile broadband and prepaid plans are not included.

Virgin's double data offer comes just days after Vodafone's announcement last week that it will double its monthly data inclusions on a selected range of month-to-month voice plans and 12-and 24-month contract plans over Christmas.
