Telstra launches third-generation Telstra TV

Telstra has upgraded their Telstra TV streaming box to feature new voice controls and Box Office movie streaming.

“Our customers can enjoy the best content from free-to-air TV, Foxtel Now, Netflix, Stan, Kayo and many other video-on-demand subscriptions all from the one device,” Acting Group Executive for Telstra Consumer and Small Businesses Michael Ackland said.

Compared to the previous Telstra TV, the third-gen streaming box features a sleeker and smaller form-factor. It also includes an improved wireless remote control with voice search.

Telstra are also replacing BigPond Movies with Telstra TV Box Office. For a limited time, new Telstra Home Broadband customers can also add on the Telstra TV and receive a $125 credit from the Telstra TV Box Office store.

Telstra also announced new Home Broadband plans that remove lock-in contracts from the equation. From February 26, the telco will offer new and returning customers two new Home Broadband plans:

  • Essential Internet Plan for $70/month with 100GB of data and nbn25
  • Unlimited Internet Plan for $90/month with unlimited data and nbn50

Both plans include unlimited calls to standard local, national, and Australian mobile numbers and now include an allowance to make 500 calls per month to 13 numbers. Telstra's Gen 2 Smart Modem is also included in the monthly price for new customers that stay connected for 24 months. Customers simply pay out the modem if they leave within 24 months.

“By simplifying our Home Broadband plans and offering the ability to add the extras they want, our customers are in full control. With a great range of entertainment and technology add-ons, it opens up a world of options with the convenience of just one single bill,” Mr Ackland said.

“With greater flexibility, our customers can add on Kayo just in time for round one of the footy, or add on Foxtel Now when the final season of Game of Thrones starts in April."
