New EX1 and ZX1 super-slim models to arrive in March
This edge lighting allows the screen to have a thickness of 9.9mm for the majority of the panel — the thinnest display panel on the market.
The TV stand incorporates a wrap-around omnidirectional speaker. When wall-mounted an optional flat-panel speaker can be attached to the display.
Released Wednesday, the 40in Sony KDL40ZX1 uses edge-lit LED backlighting with a diffusion panel to spread light evenly along the screen surface.
Pricing for the EX1 ranges from $5399 for the 42in model up to $7099 for the 52in KDL52EX1.
At its slimmest point the EX1 is less than five centimetres thick.
The stand-out technology is Sony’s BRAVIA 1080 Wireless system, which allows the television to communicate with the included receiver from up to twenty metres away.
Sony also released the EX1 range. Coming in 42, 46 and 52in sizes, the panel uses a white Picture Frame design scheme and the same wireless Full HD technology as the ZX1.
Transmitting Full HD video seamlessly to the panel, the receiver has a wide variety of digital and analog inputs and can be connected to an external audio receiver and home theatre sound system.
The EX1 has a matching white receiver and remote control. The remote control functions over RF so line of sight is not necessary.
The KDL40ZX1 incorporates Sony’s BRAVIA Engine 2 and Motionflow 100Hz technology. Pricing for the 40in model is $7399.
