Acer's Tempo smartphones unveiled at MWC

Acer unveils its first line of mobile phones at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, beating Dell to the punch

  • Acer Tempo F900
Acer's first phone out of the blocks, the F900, packs a 3.8in touch screen at WVGA (800x480) resolution. The phone runs Windows Mobile 6.1 instead of the recently announced Windows Mobile 6.5, but Acer has gone the way of HTC and Samsung in replacing the standard interface with a tailored layout. The F900 also has a 3.2-megapixel (Mp) camera with autofocus and flash, Wi-Fi, GPS and microSD compatibility. The phone has HSDPA/HSUPA connectivity.

  • Acer Tempo X960
A slightly smaller handset than the Tempo F900 and Tempo M900 smartphones, the X960 opts for a 2.8in touch screen at a respectable 640x480 pixel resolution. The phone has the same tailored interface on top of Windows Mobile 6.1, accompanied by a microSD card slot, 3.2Mp camera, GPS and Wi-Fi.

Looking much more business-like, the M900 has a sliding physical QWERTY keyboard, as well as an integrated fingerprint reader for added security. The same GPS, Wi-Fi and HSDPA/HSUPA connectivity can be found in the phone, along with a 5Mp camera with autofocus and flash. Like the Acer Tempo F900, it has a WVGA 3.8in touch screen. A microSD slot is the sole form of storage.
  • Acer Tempo DX900
Acer claims its Tempo DX900 is the world's first smartphone to support both 3.5G and EDGE SIM cards simultaneously. Unfortunately dual 3.5G SIM cards are a no-go. Otherwise, the Tempo DX900 is similar to the Acer Tempo X960 in shape and features, with a 2.8in VGA touch screen, GPS, Wi-Fi and a 3Mp camera. The DX900 also features a slightly different user interface to the other three Tempo smartphones. It has 3D animated icons and transition effects, in a similar vein to HTC's TouchFLO 3D interface.
