Slideshow: Samsung Omnia HD mobile phone

Samsung launched a range of new mobile phones at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The biggest attraction was the Samsung Omnia HD smartphone.

  • The Samsung Omnia HD can record high-definition video and play it back on an HD television. It includes an 8-megapixel camera, a built-in GPS receiver and Wi-Fi connectivity.

  • The Samsung Omnia HD's display will have a resolution of 640x360, so it can't display HD content natively. It comes with either 8GB or 16GB of internal storage, but total memory can be expanded up to 48GB, thanks to addition of an optional 32GB microSDHC card.

  • The Omnia HD features an AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) screen. Samsung claims this technology offers better sharpness, colours and clarity in direct sunlight, as well as less power consumption.

  • The HSDPA-capable handset has a 3.7-inch touch screen and will run the Symbian S60 5.0 operating system. It is Samsung's first touch-screen mobile phone to be based on this operating system. The previous Omnia ran the Windows Mobile 6.1 OS.
