In pictures: Canon's new laser printers and inkjet multifunctions

PIXMA MP640 inkjet multifunction

Canon's PIXMA MP640 improves on its predecessor, the [[Artnid:270268|PIXMA MP630|Review: Canon PIXMA MP630 inkjet multifunction]], with the addition of Wi-Fi connectivity and the ability to print directly from USB flash drives. The multifunction also has automatic duplex capability, CD/DVD printing and improved software to help users print photos and directly from the Web.
PIXMA MP990 inkjet multifunction

The PIXMA MP990 is the premium home-focussed inkjet multifunction in Canon's PIXMA range. Like the PIXMA MP640, this multifunction is largely the same as its predecessor (the [[Artnid:272727|PIXMA MP980|Review: Canon PIXMA MP980 inkjet multifunction]]) save for minor aesthetic differences, direct USB printing and improved software. There is still a lot to like however — you get CD/DVD printing, automatic duplex, Wi-Fi connectivity and an Auto Scan function that automatically recognises the original's format and saves accordingly. You can also scan 35mm slides and negatives.
PIXMA iX7000 A3+ inkjet printer

The business-focussed PIXMA iX7000 succeeds the iX5000 as Canon's premium A3+ inkjet printer for the office. Although it has a maximum print resolution of 4800x1200dpi, the PIXMA iX7000 takes aim at laser printers with the use of pigment inks and PgR technology which protects documents from water damage. As can be expected from an office printer, the PIXMA iX7000 has Ethernet connectivity and automatic duplex. There are also three separate media inputs to better handle different media sizes.
PIXMA iP4700 inkjet printer

Canon today announced a refresh of its printer and multifunction ranges. The most basic of these is the PIXMA iP4700, an inkjet that provides automatic duplex printing and two-way paper feeding. The printer has five individual ink tanks — including two black cartridges — and prints at a resolution up to 9600x2400 dots per inch (dpi). Canon claims it can print at speeds up to 9.2 pages per minute (ppm) for monochrome documents and 8.1ppm for colour. The iP4700 connects to computer via USB 2.0, and can print directly onto compatible CDs and DVDs. Pricing is yet to be confirmed.
LASER SHOT LBP7200Cdn colour laser printer

Along with the four new inkjet printers and multifunctions, Canon announced two new laser printers. Of these, the cheaper is the LBP7200Cdn, a colour laser printer that prints at speeds of up to 20 pages per minute (ppm) in both monochrome and colour. It also offers automatic duplex, Ethernet connectivity, and an all-in-one cartridge that combines the drum and transfer fuser in a single unit. The printer will be released in September with an RRP of $599.
LASER SHOT LBP7750Cdn colour laser printer

Though significantly more expensive than the LASER SHOT LBP7200Cdn, the LBP7750Cdn offers faster printing — up to 30ppm in colour and monochrome — as well as greater print language support and more memory. When in sleep mode, the LBP7750Cdn consumes a paltry 1.7 Watts of power. The colour laser printer will be available in September for $2499.
