Canon makes a splash with the launch of its new EOS 7D digital SLR

We give Canon's EOS 7D digital SLR camera a test run on Cockatoo Island

  • Splat Action: at eight frames per second, the burst mode on the Canon EOS 7D is super-fast, and it allows you to easily capture scenes such as flowing liquid.

  • Spectacles Portraiture: we kick things off with the low light performance shots and some excellent poses from our model. This shot was taken at ISO 1600 and it is pretty much clean as a whistle. You can see from the blown up area in the insert that there is no noise, nor discolouration.

  • Splat Action: it's safe to say that the favourite task performed with the Canon EOS 7D was Splat Action, which brought out the creative and adventurous spirit in all. Here you can see the wonderful depth of field of the Canon EFS 19-135mm image stabilised lens, in addition to the fast burst mode.

  • Practically Black: the Canon EOS 7D allows you to adjust the exposure compensation down to -5. This allows you to capture some sinister-looking shots in low-light situations.

  • Practically Black: with a little more light, you can boost the ISO and play with the exposure level to capture some wonderful colours.

  • Canon's EOS 7D is an 18-megapixel D-SLR camera that uses an APS-C image sensor for capturing clean and vibrant shots. It's the next model up from the [[artnid: 263365 | EOS 50D |Review: Canon EOS 50D ]], and it includes some more oomph for photographers keen on capturing action shots. It has a 19-point autofocus system that will keep a moving subject in focus within those points; it can capture at up to 8 frames per second in burst mode, for up to 90 shots. Not only that, but the EOS 7D has amazing performance at high ISO settings, and it can take shots at ISO 6400 without even a hint of noise. Cockatoo Island in Sydney harbour was the location Canon chose to showcase the camera and allow a select group of journalists to test out the new camera's features. Read on for our showcase of the Canon EOS 7D digital SLR camera new features. We also reveal our results from the ontest Canon competition challenges including capturing Spectacles Portraiture, Practically Black and Splat Action.

  • Splat Action: Sydney turned out some glorious spring weather which was perfect for some water-based shenanigans, and our model was happy to sacrifice her clothes for the sake of art. Again, this shows the fast burst mode in action.
