Several big OEMs debuted new Intel-powered tablets running Windows 8

  • A new wave of Windows 8 tablets A host of major electronics manufacturers, including HP, Lenovo, Dell and Samsung rolled out new Windows 8 tablets at an event Thursday in San Francisco. Here’s a quick look at these new challengers in the tablet market.

  • Dell Latitude 10 The Latitude 10 is a 10-inch tablet running Windows 8 Professional, powered by the new Atom Z2760 system on a chip. Full-sized USB connectivity also means that legacy peripherals will work with the device. Photo credit: Intel

  • ASUS VivoTab Checking in at 11.6 inches and packing Wacom stylus support and a rear 8 megapixel camera, the VivoTab is just 8.3mm thick. Photo credit: Intel

  • Acer Iconia W510 Like many of the business-focused tablets on display, Acer’s Iconia W510 focused on battery life and small size. Though it weighs less than 3 pounds with the optional keyboard dock attached, Acer claims the 10.1-inch W510 can provide 18 hours of use on a charge. Photo credit: Intel

  • Fujitsu Stylistic Q702 Fujitsu opted for the Core i5 vPro chip in the 11.6-inch Stylistic Q702, and included optional 4G/LTE connectivity and stylus support to boot. Photo credit: Intel

  • HP Envy x2 HP’s 11.6-inch offering detaches from its keyboard dock via an innovative system of magnets, the company said, adding that it also features near-field communication technology. Photo credit: Intel

  • Samsung Smart PC Media performance was an apparent focus for Samsung’s 11.6-inch Smart PC, which can play video for an advertised 9.4 hours at a time. Photo credit: Intel

  • Lenovo ThinkPad 2 The ThinkPad 2 mounts a full-sized USB port and 10.1-inch screen on a sub-10mm thickness package. Lenovo was one of the few companies not to advertise a docking system, though that doesn’t necessarily rule it out, particularly given the firm’s focus on the availability of Microsoft Office apps. • ZTE V98 The other new tablet not to feature a keyboard dock, ZTE’s 10.1-inch V98 is a bit more consumer-focused than the rest of the field, though its advanced speakers and 2 megapixel front-facing camera could make it an impressive video chat device. Photo credit: Intel
