An MSI gaming laptop that isn't briefcase-sized? Is it any good?
We’ve seen some absolutely massive gaming laptops from MSI but then they’ve had things like SLI graphics and mechanical, desktop keyboards embedded. The GS43VR 7RE is a much more reasonable size. It’s not small with its 14-inch screen but its 1.8KG weight is almost ultraportable compared to its girthy siblings. We’ll be publishing a full review very soon but here are some shots of it together with our first impressions. Full specs are here.
The status lights on the front are easy to decipher but tend to make the laptop look a bit cheap. The trackpad is smooth, responsive and easy to click, though.
It might not be thin but the contoured lid looks stylish.
Obligatory mind-bending perspective shot.
Inside the laptop is a 2.8GHz Intel 7th Gen processor, 16GB RAM, 16GB RAM 256 GB NvME drive and a 1TB mechanical drive.
The underside. Don't block those vents - especially with your delicate squishy parts.
You wouldn't be too ashamed showing this brand off. There's a micro-HDMI port at the base.
The keyboard is by SteelSeries and is well-weighted and comfortable to type on.
The red backlight can has two intensities or can be turned off.
There's no easy way to turn the trackpad off which will annoy many gamers.
The ports on the left include LAN, USB 3, SD card and two audio ports - the latter can be used with Nahimic Vr 7.1 surround sound.
The ports on the right include USB-C and an HDMI port which can be used for VR.
Crowing about the key features.
