Fitbit's Aria 2 smart scale was also on display. It boasts better accuracy, easier setup via Bluetooth and a more stylish design than its predecessor.
Smartwatches aren't the only new category Fitbit are playing in this year, with the company also debuting its Flyer Wireless Earbuds.
The Flyer earbuds are envisioned as a natural match for the new Fitbit Ionic.
Like the Ionic, they're available in several colors.
Media present at the launch event were walked through the extensive featureset that the Ionic will offer users.
The Fitbit Ionic supports contactless payments for Visa, Mastercard, AMEX and at least three major Australian banks (NAB, CBA and Westpac).
Fitbit have even moved to simplify watch face creation this time around. Attendees of the event were walked through a short coding session to demonstrate just how easy it is to customize and create your own watch faces for the Ionic.
