Acer aims for the enterprise

Acer launched its latest notebook series -- the TravelMate 720 -- in Sydney today, the company highlighting its strategy to penetrate the high-end corporate market.

The TravelMate 720 incorporates the latest technological advances, said company officials, including the new Intel Pentium II processor for mobiles in speeds of 200 to 366MHz. Also new is a graphite-based Lithium Ion battery which provides four hours of batter life on a single charge, the company claims.

Acer's strategy is in-line with market trends, according to one industry figure present at the launch. Helmut Flieg, Intel OEM sales manager, said that the adoption of mobile computing is growing at a rate 20 per cent more than that of desktops. Factors such as the lowering of total cost of ownership and the new generation of mobile processors, which are narrowing the performance gap between desktops and mobiles, were cited.

The TravelMate 720 is priced from $6999.
