Symantec has announced a corporate Year 2000 solution for desktop PCs amd distributed computing environments.
Norton 2000 includes data scanning as well as an application scan database and BIOS test and fix. Norton 2000 includes Symantec's LiveUpdate and Norton System Center for corporations to update and distribute software throughout an enterprise.
Symantec claims the data scanning component discovers Y2K problems in complex files, and generates a customisable report on the findings. The program scans Excel v.3, 4, 5, 95 and 97; Lotus 1-2-3 v.1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 97; Quattro Pro v.1 through 8; Access, all versions; dBase III and IV; Clipper; FoxPro; and Paradox. For recent Excel spreadsheets, Norton 2000 colour-codes and annotates the spreadsheet to highlight and explain Y2K issues in affected cells.
Norton 2000 creates a boot floppy disk to test the BIOS. A BIOS/hardware analysis is offered and a repair rate of 99 per cent is claimed.
The corporate version of Norton 2000 is available now, and a retail version will be available later this year. Cost is $54 per license for 150-199 users, to $79 per license for 10-24 users.
