New "subcompact" HP Brio PCs

Claiming an industry-first subcompaact "micro-tower" design, Hewlett-Packard has announced a line of HP Brio PCs for the business market.

The line starts with Intel's Celeron range of processors, starting with a street price of $2449 (including 15in monitor).

The HP Brio 7000 series is targetted at mainstream business computing. The entry-level model is configured with: Intel 266MHz Celeron CPU; 32MB SDRAM; 2.1GB UltraATA HDD; Matrox G100 AGP graphics; 16-bit SoundBlaster Pro-compatible sound; 10/100Base-T LAN adapter; and Windows 98.

The HP Brio 8000 series is designed for "power-hungry" business users. PCs can be ordered with a 24x MAX ReWritable CD-ROM drive. The top-of-the-line model has: Intel 400MHz Pentium II CPU; 64MB SDRAM; ATI 3D PagePro Turbo AGP 2x graphics; 16-bit SoundBlaster Pro-compatible sound; 10/100Base-T LAN adapter; 10.1GB Ulatra ATA 7200rpm HDD; ReWritable CD-ROM drive; and Windows NT 4.0 WorkStation. Estimated street price is $4739.

HP Brio PCs have a three-year limited warranty.
